About

Hi!

I live in Western Canada, which meant Vancouver for a while, then Calgary and now Edmonton. Three years ago, I noticed that there were duck species other than mallards and since then I’ve been fascinated with noticing the different bird species that perch, walk, tweet, fly and swim wherever I may be. In April of 2015, Laura at Create Art Every Day started a monthly Draw A Bird Day and got me hooked on drawing birds.

My current camera is a Canon Powershot SX530 HS, with 50x optical zoom. For my first 6 months of birdwatching (January to mid-July 2015), I used the much smaller Canon Powershot SD12000 IS, with only 3x optical zoom. I can see things that are much further away now! Unless I specifically attributed them to other people, all of the photographs and drawings in this blog were created by me, Myriam (Myr).

Besides photographing and drawing birds, I also like to learn about their behaviours. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s All About Birds website is usually my go-to place for identifying a bird by shape and plumage, listening to the songs and calls of a species and finding out a bit about a species’ behaviour. For more behaviour details, I use Birds of North America Online, which is also hosted by The Cornell Lab of Ornithology. If BNA online doesn’t explain a behaviour I observed, there is Google!
